- Between about 1680 and1850, nomadic horse tribes
moved through Idaho, Eastern Washington, Eastern Oregon,
Utah, Nevada, & Northeastern California. Various
tribes make up the Shoshone Nation: Paiute, Bannock,
Snake, Ute, and Comanche. Except for the Paiute, they
were not permanent residents of Oregon. The Snake and
Bannock traveled into the area of present-day Oregon.
They did evidently came as far north and west as
present-day The Dalles, Oregon to trade.
