5th
Grade Step Up
By Maggie
On May 24, the 5th graders of Mosier and
Chenowith schools went to Chenowith Middle School (CMS) to
learn what it's like to be 6th graders at CMS. First we went
to the cafeteria with the 5th graders and some of the 6th
graders where Mr. Kessler, the principal, talked to us. Then
we were shown around the school. We went out of the building
and then around to a long hallway that goes from one end of
the school to the other. We saw the old and the new gyms. We
went into the three 6th grade classrooms where some of the
students talked to us about 6th grade. After that, we went
down to the library where Mr. Kessler talked to us again.
Then we went back to the bus androde home.

Mosier
Sing Along
By Noe
We had a Mosier Sing Along on May 2,
2001. All of the school participated in it. Our school music
teacher, Ms. Stevens, put a lot of hard work into doing
this. A lot of the children had fun practicing, performing,
and enjoying the music. The kindergarten and first graders
did boom whackers. The second and third graders did
recorders and maracas. The fourth and fifth graders sang and
did the first performance on our new drums.

Review of Storybook Weaver
By Maggie
Storybook Weaver is a program that lets
you write illustrated stories. It lets you create stories
two different ways. You can make your own story, or you can
use a story starter. The story starters give you a title and
a first page with an illustration. The new stories just give
you a blank page. You can choose a background and objects
out of different categories. Or, if you want you can just
play around. It's a very fun program, and you can even add
sounds. From the makers of The Oregon Trail.

TAG
Project
By Noe
The second through fifth grade TAG
students made a painted rug in the Project Room. The first
thing the students did was squares. The lines had to meet
each other. Then Ms. Dills-Kelter made big squares and then
we put heavy black lines on them. Then we all colored them.
The whole school voted on which design to use for the rug.
We put our handprint around the edge of the picture. Then a
design was put in the middle of the whole rug. You can see
the finished work in the Project Room.

The New
Store
By Maggie
In Mosier there is a new business. The
store's name is Fairydell Store. It is on the old highway
next to the ice cream store. It is going to be a gift shop
and café. It was moved from another site a few blocks
away. They have planted lots of native plants and flowers in
front. Gay Jervey owns the site, and she did most of the
planting.

TV TurnOff
Week
By Antar
On the week of April 23rd through April
30th kids countrywide participated in an event called TV
TurnOff week. The kids that participated agreed to not watch
or play anything that has a screen. TV TurnOff encouraged
kids to do fun activities outdoors, do projects with their
parents and explore the world. Kids were given sheets with
slips that they filled out and returned to school. For each
slip that they filled out they got to draw a prize from a
box. After one week of turning in slips they held a main
assembly on April 2nd. That's when they drew out names of
students who participated, and the lucky students whose
names got drawn out got to pick a prize. After that was done
the students that participated got an award to commemorate
their efforts.

Twin Tunnels
By Kiefer
The Twin Tunnel Trail runs between Hood
River and Mosier. It is 4.6 miles long. It used to be
Highway 30. In the middle of the trail there are two
tunnels. We call them the Twin Tunnels. It is a very
convenient place for peace and quiet. We can go to Hood
River on foot or bike without getting hit by a motor
vehicle.
