The Wahtonka cross country team had an exciting year.

At first place for the Wahtonka cross country team is Jennifer Stranz.."It was alot of fun!" said Jennifer. Next in second place is Angie Foresman, who also did very good at state. Angie tried very hard at state and was glad she ran. Jessie Ziggler is another outstanding runner, this year she got under the top 20 at state. There team was great and got 3rd place at state. "This year I think are girls are one of the best in the league." said there coach Steve Thompson.

Now moving on to the boys. Thain Wild. He did great this year and tried very hard. Right behind him was Levi Bagge. He also did great and tried his hardest also. Of course you can't forget Lucas Warden. He's one of the most impressive, being small but can run like lightning. "We haven't been to state in three years, but I'm sure glad we got to go this year, and we really needed to!" says Steve Thompson. We all had confidence in Wahtonka this year, and they went to state empty handed but came home with 2 trophys!

Electives

By Joey and Tina

Every early release days beginning on the 21st of October until December 16, there will be a lot of activities to choose from for Electives.

Mrs. Walworth will be putting on a book discussion tea activity in the library for 4th and 5th graders. They will be reading a book called "Crash". They give cookies and tea. It's a lot of fun but you have to have good reading skills.

Mrs. Wilson taught a drawing workshop activity. One of my friends told me it was really fun.

Ms. Coats taught a group how to paint huge flowers. They had to mix their own colors and then paint on big paper.

Several students went to the computer lab and used KidPix to create pictures which will become part of a slide show.

Whatever activity you choose, enjoy the opportunity to do something different.

Fire Safety

By Alejandro and Andy

On October 6, we had a fire assembly, and some people from the fire department came and talked about the things we need to know if we had a fire. Sparkey the dog and Freddy the fire truck came and talked to us about fire saftey. They asked if you had a fire what would you do? They gave us fire escape plan so we could draw it. If you won they would give you a hat and a shirt. If you won a drawing you could win a trip to Disney Land. The first grade also got to go on Fire Truck rides.

Open House

By Kristina and Shayla

Open house was crowded . There was a large crowd of parents and other people there. That night there was a book fair in the library. A lot of books were sold that night. There were two other days to buy the books. Some of the titles were Titanic, Goosebumps , and Animorphs.

The parents went to their children's rooms and checked out what they had been doing. And they went to the cafeteria for the refreshments.

Open house was fun.

Halloween

by Katie and Tessia

Halloween was last month. Pumpkins are part of Halloween. Many people also go trick-or-treating. Other Halloween decorations where scarecrows and black cats.

The Celts celebrated it as Samhain (pronounced "sow-in"), with the dead in Pagan and Christian times, signalizing the close of harvest and the initiation of the winter season. The Celts believed that every year on the last day of October, the souls of the dead people came back to life. This became a time to play tricks on other dressing up in costumes and going "trick or treating", costume parades, community parties and Fall festivals are some of the ways that Halloween is celebrated today.

Also if you can remember are 4th graders and down had a Halloween blast, dressing up as ghost, goblins, witches and cats. The 5th graders had a fall party, with pop, chips, candy and a sensational movie. The day was fun for everyone.

Now Halloween is over so put your costumes and your Halloween spirits away.

Kids Kamp

by Nancy

On October 1st, the fifth graders went to Kids Kamp. When we got there we had to split into 11 different teams. I was in team 11. First we introduced ourselves with a footbag . Then we went to a log and the counselors made us get on the log. We pretended whoever did not get on the log would get burned in the lava . Then we went to watch a movie about smoking. They said smoking gives you cancer. Then we went to a lady who taught us fire safety. That means that we had to do a race with a partner. Then we had lunch. After that we went with this guy who is good at kicking a footbag. We could not do what he could do. The best thing I liked about him was the way he kicked the footbag. At first he kicked it with his left foot and then his right. Then he went faster and faster. Then he kicked on his head.

He made us try to do it. I could not.

We left to see the guy who is good at the footbag. He was playing a jumprope game. They did cool things like this guy can stand a bottle.

After that we left to go to the school. I really had a good time .

Crash - a Book Review

The readers tea group did a book review about Crash . The author of Crash is Jerry Spinelli.

A seventh grade boy named Crash Coogan torments his geeky neighbor Penn Webb. Crash goes out for football and Penn Webb goes out for Cheerleading

They come from two completely different families. Penn Webb's family are vegeterians, Quakers, they buy their clothes from a second hand store have no T.V but they are loving to each other.

Crash's family is busy with their jobs, not home alot, don't spend time together, watch alot of T.V., buy expensive clothes and eat pizza.

When Crash's grandfather has a stroke Penn Webb show's Crash how to change his ways.

Opinions:

Rachel- I think it was really funny.

Alejandro- It was funny and exciting.

Blakely-Boring and funny at the same time.
