Toucan

By Ashley Prentice

Toucans are black and white. Their bills are usually vividly colored. They're not all black and white but most are. There are up to 40 different species of toucans.

The mother toucan gives birth to 2-4 eggs. Toucans are born blind. They leave the nest when 8 weeks old. Toucans are one of the noisiest birds in the world.

Their bill helps them find other toucans. Three interesting facts about toucans are: one, their tongues are feathered; two, they're related to woodpeckers; three, their bill is always a pattern.

You can hear the sound of a toucan over a 1\2 mile away. The biggest bill is on the male taco toucans. Toucans fly tree to tree finding food. The toucans' enemies are animals like jaguars. The toucan lives mostly in the canopy. Toucans use their brightly colored feathers to attract mates.

Toucans eat seeds, insects and fruit from the trees. Toucans pig out on berries also. Toucans live mostly in South America. The biggest Toucan is 25-30 inches long. The smallest is 13-15 inches long.

There are a lot of interesting facts about toucans but my favorite is that their tongues are feathered.
